This is a very new topic to me. But I would like to learn more about this since I want to be a teacher. There is also a lot of information about it, so its easy to research. This is the topic that interests me the most.
That Is So Gross!!
How many times throughout our life have we heard someone say “ that is so disgusting!”, I guarantee you that most of those statements have been said for thousands of different things; most of them were probably not for the same thing. Well when I personally think of the word disgust or disgusting, a million different things come to mind. My definition of disgust would have to be anything that somebody finds distasteful or even gross. Now I’m not just talking about things that can be seen, I’m talking about peoples personality’s, sicknesses, personal matters or anything else that may not be seen by other people, but are maybe just felt by those who deal with them on a daily basis. I am going to convince you that things that are disgusting: aren’t always seen with the naked eye.
We all have that one thing that we find totally and utterly repulsive and disgusting. Some people find snakes disgusting or some people cannot stand the sight of blood. These are all things that are very ordinary things to be repulsed by. These are just things that you can’t stand to touch or maybe you can’t stand to see them. They give you that queasy feeling in your stomach and you get shivers down your spine even hearing the word. It’s just something that you can’t get yourself to even talk about. I know that when I see a snake my stomach just drops, and my palms start to sweat, my heart rate speeds up, and I get shivers up and down my spine. Even talking about them makes me a little bit nervous.
Something that people find disgust with is people. Now you are probably wondering how can people be disgusting? Now I’m not talking about people who are dirty or have bad hygiene. I am talking about people who have horrible personalities or are just bad people all around. Have you ever found yourself disgusted by the way a person was acting or something that they did. People who think they are better then everybody, and think that for some reason they are in a class above everybody, are disgusting and repulsive. What gives a person the right to treat another person like that? Another prime example of a disgusting individual would have to be Adolph Hitler, a person who personally had a hand in the mass genocidal murder of over 6 million jewish people. That is a man who’s personality is so repulsive and disgusting he is considered to be one of the most evil human beings ever to walk on earth. How can somebody who contributed to this horrible act not be considered a disgusting and vile person?
How about when people feel like there bodies are just failing them, and they are just so disgusted with their body and what it is doing to them? How about people who are diagnosed with cancer or some other terminal disease, and they know that their body is letting them down, I would be disgusted with my body for just shutting down on me and just giving up on you. You would almost be disgusted with yourself for letting it happen or maybe not recognizing the signs earlier. Then the fact that your body almost seems to be saying I give up and just starts to go to hell in a hand basket on you. You would also be disgusted with the disease for taking something that is so precious to you and the people around you. The disease could almost seem to be a person that has the disgusting quality of taking something that isn’t there’s and something they had no right to take in the first place. I would feel so disgusted and sick just with knowing that I was gonna die, and there was nothing I could do to stop it. How about people who have mental or personality disorders like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. I would think that you would be so disgusted with yourself, because you lose control of your actions and the way you act around people. You lose control of your thoughts and the way you can interact with people in your everyday life. Again something inside of your body has turned on you, how can that not be distasteful and disgusting? Or how about the people who are anorexic or bulimic or have some other eating disorder and find there bodies disgusting and see an inadequate disgusting person when they look in the mirror even though they look beautiful and perfect; but they have convinced themselves that they are ugly and in order to not be ugly they need to starve themselves or make themselves throw up whenever they eat.
How about people who are having a rough time in their personal lives. People who are maybe going through a divorce, or nothing seems to be going right in their personal lives. You would just feel so disgusted with everything that is going on around you and in your personal life. You would probably begin to feel disgusted with yourself, you would maybe blame yourself for what is happening, you would feel disgusted with the other person for putting you through hell and back again. Everything would just seem to be falling apart around you and you couldn’t do anything to stop it or to make it any better. How distasteful and discouraging would it be to know you don’t have a lot of control over the situation.
Every person is disgusted with somebody, something, or an event that is going in your life. There are just certain things that happen in everyone’s lives that they have no control over how they turn out or what you can do about them. You think we could just have control over things that happen in our lives but we really don’t. There is always that one thing that you can’t just help but say get that away from me, as you seem to shrivel away in disgust. There isn’t a lot you can do about things that you are disgusted with. Distaste and disgust within your life and with things involved in your life and unfortunately just part of everyday life and as human beings we just need to learn to deal with it and make the best of the situation.

America has always been considered a land of great diversity and mass culture. But it has always been expected that when you come to our country you know atleast some english and can use it while voting, and can at least establish yourself within our civic culture. But when trying to making english the official language of the United States, the government has never been able to do it. But when reading In Plain English: Lets Make It Official by Charles Krauthammer, he made some of the best points I have ever heard as to why english should be made the official language. English should be made the official language of the United States; besides, it would make everything a lot easier. We as the citizens of the United States wouldn’t have to worry about taking foreign language in school, it’s not right that we have to learn so many different languages to make it more convenient for the people who are entering our country.
When we go over to other countries to visit or live, we usually know some of the main language that is spoken in that country. So how is it fair that when people come here they don’t know any english at all. I’m not saying that everybody knows some of the language when they go visit another country but the majority know at least a little bit, just so they communicate a little bit so it makes their visit a lot easier and less hectic. You are just asking for trouble and complications when you go into a foreign country and can’t speak their language at least a little. It’s not fair to the citizens in america, that we should know a little bit of like a billion different languages because we have so many people that immigrate to the United States. If we do that everybody in all of the other countries should have to do the same.
Krauthammer also makes the mention of the ongoing feud between Canada and Quebec. Quebec wants to separate itself completely from Canada and form its own nation. Quebec wants french to be named its official language since almost everyone in Quebec speaks french not english. So they now have this ongoing feud. Can we think of a time in our country’s history, where we were fighting amongst each other: how about the civil war. Now I don’t neccessarily think our country will get into a war over this issue. But I have a feeling it could get ugly really quick.
How hard is it to declare english the official language of the United States? We have had plenty of oppurtunities to do it in the past and still we won’t do it. Every other country on the planet earth has an official language why shouldn’t we? Fighting over language isn’t the best thing to be fighting over. It seems to me that there are a lot of more important things we could be arguing over, like the economy for instance. It seems to be such an easy problem to fix, and solution seems to be fairly easy too. You need to make it easier for the natural born citizens of the United States, we shouldn’t have to learn a ton of different languages--we don’t ask people in other countries to do that for us--so why should we have to do it for them?
We really just need to buckle down and make english our official language. The majority of people living in the United States use english as their main language. We need to stop worrying about making other people from other countries happy and just worry about what makes the citizens of our country happy.

To Be Or Not To Be A Brute
When I think of a brute I think of someone who’s character entails the ability of doing stupid, vile, and immoral acts with or without thinking. In the story I do believe that both of the characters are brutes and are both complete idiots. They both do stupid senseless acts that affect the other person negatively.
I believe the doctor is a brute because he didn’t think about what he was doing and let his emotions get the best of him, and acted rashly. I can’t believe that he actually sewed the guys ears to the stretcher! As a doctor you should not act so rashly ecspecially when a mans life is on the line. You need to help your patient and try to keep them calm and not stress them out even more. I understand that the man was moving around a lot and he couldn’t stitch his wound up but thats when you go out and ask the police to start actually doing their job and come and hold him down, you don’t take it upon yourself to stab holes in his ears and sew him to the stretcher thats just a lawsuit waiting to happen. Also when he did that evil grin and said “ Now you fuckin hold still.” it doesn’t get a lot more evil then that. He was just throwing his new power in the patients face and just gloating about the fact that he could no longer move.
The patient was just as bad if not a bigger brute. He willing goes and gets drunk when he obiviously he knows that alcohol just turns him into a huge asshole and gets him into trouble. When you know that only bad things can come from it why do you go ahead and do it? How old are we now, I don’t think he is still five and still needs to be told what to and not to do.
But in the end I think the patient is the bigger brute. Because what it comes down to is that the doctor was just trying to do his job, and he made a rash decision. But it was either that or let your patient die, and if he wouldn’t of did what he did the man would of died and the doctor would have been sued for malpractice.

Disgust: 1598, from M.Fr. desgoust "strong dislike, repugnance," lit. "distaste," from desgouster "have a distaste for," from des- "opposite of" + gouster "taste," from L. gustare "to taste" (see gusto). Sense has strengthened over time, and subject and object have been reversed: cf. "It is not very palatable, which makes some disgust it" (1669), while the reverse sense of "to excite nausea" is attested from 1650.

I really don't have any idea on how to appeal to my reader. Most of the time when I write I just try to write about what I personally think about the topic, and I hope for the best. I try to use detail and use a good explanation for my reasoning. I guess maybe I do try and appeal to my reader without even knowing I'm doing it. I think out of these three appeals I need to work on emotion the most. I don't think my writing has ever really made my readers feel anything, I don't think my writing has a lot of emotional depth. I feel like I am pretty good at giving examples, I have always tried to back up my facts with examples, so my writing seems more life like and my reader can relate to it a little more. I think I am pretty logical, I try to use logical reasoning in all of my writing. I know how to sound like a good moral person, but I do not try to sound like a moral person just to please everyone else, I stick to what I believe. My author is awesome at using logic, and using examples to back up what he is saying and gives you facts, so he is very believable. He also seems to be a very moral person, because he is so easy to believe so hes seems like he would never lie to you so he seems to have good morals, and good values.

On June 4, 2006 Charles Krauthammer wrote the article In Plain English: Let’s Make It Official, he talks about how he believes that english should be made the official language of the United States. He begins the article by saying that he is from Quebec and how in Quebec it is bilingual, and he says that it can be nice to be bilingual, but it can also cause anger and strife in the country, like it is doing in Canada. He talks about how the United States by having only one language, has helped it in becoming a universal nation. Then he tells us by establishing english as the official language, it is the first step in establishing norms. He then makes the point of saying even if english isn’t your first language, you need to be able to identify the words President and Vice President, when you join this culture you also join it’s civic culture. It is very easy to tell what his opinion is on this topic, but he makes some excellent points and a lot of the arguments I had never heard before and I liked the fact that he is bilingual so he knows what its like first hand.
I think that this article can a wide variety of readers, it’s an issue that can appeal to all ages. By doing that you get a huge variety of viewpoints across the board, and you get a ton of different opinions. Because so many different ages would read this you could potentially have this be a huge national issue.
I like how he uses examples and facts for everything he says. But it has no organization, so it is somewhat hard to follow at times. Well the website is the time magazine website so you know that its credible, it looks very professional and clean cut. By having a nice website it makes you feel good about what you are reading and you don’t question it as much.
In ethos the website and its images make you feel reassured that what you are reading isn’t garbage. In logos it looks smart and you know that it is coming from a credible and reliable source. For pathos the website doesn’t make you feel stupid it is very friendly, and colorful, and it looks like a website that any person can use. Designing the website this way was really good, because more people are apt to go to a website if they think that anybody can use it, and not just the smart people.

Narration just makes it so much easier to talk about your topic since that is what a narrator does talk. I feel like my logos is pretty good in my essay because I tried to use a lot of example, and I feel like my ethos is good because people can relate to what I am talking about. Pathos I'm not too sure i think that it might be a little shaky, but I guess we will see

Ready To Make It Official?
